Karis joined Compliagent in 2016 with a background in healthcare compliance and risk management. In her time with Compliagent, Karis has overseen the development and maintenance of compliance programs for various types of providers including: skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies and hospice organizations. Karis uses her knowledge of Medicare’s conditions of participation and payment to guide her clients’ risk management activities through the use of preventative compliance audits, data trending, policy and procedure development, and education. Karis also has in-depth experience with providing compliance guidance related to HIPAA, OSHA, Stark and Anti-Kickback Statute matters. Karis’ education in legal studies makes her a valuable asset for all clients who seek to understand the regulatory environment and the government’s enforcement priorities.
Karis has also assisted clients with navigating Corporate Integrity Agreements (CIA) by leveraging her experience to implement practical and client specific compliance programs, policies and procedures, education plans and other requirements of the CIAs.
Karis earned her B.A. with Honors in Healthcare Management from California State Dominguez Hills, with a specialization in healthcare compliance and her Master’s degree in legal studies. She is also an active member of The Health Care Compliance Association and is Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB).
In her free time, she enjoys reading, catching up on the latest Netflix series, and spending time with her husband and two dogs, Simba and Syre.
